The
Tasting Room
Continued...
Historic Old Town Cottonwood is nestled in
the heart of the Verde Valley Wine Trail.
Old town is a year round destination
for shopping, dining, sightseeing,
exploring, and
now
wine tasting.
Ironically
famous for prohibition era bootlegging in
the 1920's & 1930's. This area has a rich history in
mining as well. Bootlegging became a big
industry, with pool halls and restaurants
lining Main Street that were often fronts dispensing home brew.
Joe Hall, alleged to be the “Bootleg
King of Arizona” was said to have a hole in
the floor of his back room at 1004 North
Main that concealed a generous supply of
whiskey.
The town is rumored to be a maze of
underground tunnels and the townspeople
were concerned with Cottonwood was acquiring a
lawless reputation even lobbied for a jail
that still stand.
Today,
the business is all up front at 1012 North
Main in the old Willard building.
Arizona Stronghold Winery has opened
a tasting room across the street.
